Pakistan's digital freelancing sector has crossed the $500 million earnings threshold in the first half of FY2026, marking a record milestone that underscores the country's growing position as a global technology talent hub.
Pakistani freelancers earned more than $500 million in the first half of fiscal year 2025–26, crossing a major milestone that reflects the remarkable depth and global demand for Pakistan's technology talent. The figure, reported by the State Bank of Pakistan and cited by Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja as evidence of the sector's momentum, represents a significant increase over the same period in the prior year and positions Pakistan as one of the world's top five freelancing nations by earnings.
The milestone is driven by growth in software development, AI and data services, digital design, and content creation, sectors where Pakistani professionals are increasingly competitive at the global price-quality intersection. The government's investment in digital skills infrastructure, including the DigiSkills programme, has contributed to a broadening of the freelancer base beyond major urban centres into secondary cities and rural areas.
For UK technology companies, Pakistan's freelancing talent ecosystem represents both an immediate human resources opportunity and a longer-term signal about the country's readiness for more structured technology partnership. UPTECH works with member companies seeking to engage Pakistani technology talent through formal employment, contracting, and nearshoring arrangements, providing guidance on compliance, payments, and talent identification.
